First day at sea

We left Dubai harbour late last night and to sail through the Strait of Hormuz and on to the Gulf of Oman.

It was a day of finding out about the ship, the Queen Elizabeth and all that she offers. This was a trip booked following a frantic phone call from our friends, saying they had booked and we must join them. This is not a cruise line that we normally travel with, so we know nothing about the way they function.

The ship has a passenger population of just under 2,000 passengers and is on its final leg of a round the world trip, so we stay with her until we reach Southampton in May. Today we listened to the Insights lecture on “the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World”, then did a session in the gym. I haven’t been to the gym at home since pre ‘flu, so plan a gradual return to some level of fitness. There is a knit and natter type of session at 3pm each sea day, so a chance to meet up with other ladies and gents who “make things”. It will probably be a good opportunity to get the gossip on what is happening on board.

Tonight is a formal night, so dressing up for dinner. It is all fixed time dining in the dining rooms, so we are booked for 8.30. The show starts at 10.30, so making it a very late night. Staying awake is a bit of a challenge!!
