Satchel's
Out and about today...ate lunch with friends at Satchel's Pizza, here in Gainesville. This college town must have at least a Hundred pizza places, but there's only one Satchel's. The food is great, the service is friendly and the surroundings...well the building and grounds are insanely cool! Satchel opened his restaurant in 2003, just parked the 1965 Ford Falcon Van that he had driven for 10 years right there in front, put a couple of tables in it and walla...get your name on the list to dine in the Van! We ate on the air conditioned patio, but inside is an art lover's delight. Two local artists' works are featured on a monthly basis. Art is to enjoy and purchase if you wish. Satchel's had a major fire in 2012. It took quite a while to build it back. Satchel and the community raised $37,696 for his employees to survive on until they could go back to work. Cars all over this part of the State sport SATCHEL'S famous collection of BumperStickers. On the premises is a small shop called 'Lightening Salvage' where you can find lot's of kicky and low priced fun things, to purchase or just enjoy looking at. If you have a moment and enjoy this type of experience check out Satchel's Website. It's a hoot! In today's 'Extras'...about 1/3 of the unusual BandAids for sale. (I can't even begin to imagine what an 'AbeLincoln' bandaid might look like!) A detailed look at one of the outside walls, and A 'WindChime' made of Hub Caps! On my list! If you've been to G'ville and haven't been to Satchel's...you gotta come back! :)
