What is the point of Shakespeare?
Tomorrow is the 400th. Anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare.
This morning our Baker's Dozen discussion group gave a good airing to the impact of the world's most famous dramatist and poet both on society and on ourselves as individuals.
For many Shakespeare is just one or two plays which they had to learn about at school. But there is so much more to his work than that. In terms of understanding the human condition and enjoying the beauty of our language, some time spent reading or watching DVDs of the plays can be richly rewarding.
The worldwide fame of this man from middle England is very much deserved..
The edition above was a Christmas present from my brother in 1951.
