It's Grim Up North

So, Victoria Wood has died (19th). I was only fretting at the weekend about Billy Connolly and his Parkinson's Disease when Victoria steps off the stage first.

When I was parping around on the jetty taking this and other photos I fell into conversation with a young man (who actually turned out to be in his 40s, so young middle-aged). He runs an online gaming business, employs thirty people etc. etc. I asked him if he was going to vote in the referendum. He said he couldn't distinguish between political parties, didn't understand the implications of in and out and never watched TV or read newspapers to gain any knowledge. He lived his life gaming and following YouTube channels. He had no faith in any politician and thought that they were all in politics for their own gain and that politics as a profession was for people who had been to Eton or similar, so there was no point in joining in. He couldn't /wouldn't see that you can only change things by engaging.
He can't be alone in thinking like this. However, it was good for my spirits to talk to someone for over an hour who listened, considered, asked questions. He seemed young for his age, but I think he just inhabited a different universe.

More Morecambe folk in extras.
