Colombia's Independence day
Today, the 20th of July, is our Independence day. I normally feel very proud of where I come from but today I feel down after finding out that the Wayúu, an indigenous group of Colombia, have had their human rights violated. About 50 years ago, the Colombian National Registry Office gave to many of the Wayúu Indians their ID cards with false, mocking names such as: Arrancamuelas (Tooth Puller), Bolsillo (Pocket), Cabezón (Big Head), Chichí (Piss), Coito (Coitus), Gorila (Gorilla), Monja (Nun), Payaso (Clown) and Teléfono (Telephone), just because they don't speak or understand Spanish.

It has made me feel really indignant, angry and sad. Thanks to a Wayúu lawyer and a film-maker this situation is now known and hopefully the Wayúu can reclaim their real names back
