At Sea - Surtsey and Westmann Islands
The biggest thing that happened today was the circumnavigation of our ship of the small (1.4km) island of Surtsey, which formed due to a volcanic eruption 130m below sea level in 1963. The eruption lasted until 1967 and has been of great scientific interest ever since. The ship sailed very near to the island, and the Westmann Islands, and we had a good view of Surtsey.
Cloudy today with a slight/moderate sea, wind north at 8mpt and temperature 14C.
Another very relaxed day; line dance class in the morning, lecture on 'The Northern Lights' in the afternoon. Ballroom dancing class, and after dinner a full programme of entertainment. Tonight we were treated to the thoughts of Brenda Collins, a commedienne from Durham, and a very funny lady.
