Sun Pillar

This evening I saw a wonderful effect after the sun went down. There was a pillar of light reaching into the sky from where the sun had set. Across this a plane had left a vapour trail, making a cross of light. I took some photos, but none did justice to what I saw.

After nearly two weeks of relatively mild weather there are signs of spring about. The dunnock has joined the song thrush in proclaiming territory, which is nice, and a few flies have appeared, which is not.
I love the warmth, but hope we return to winter soon, otherwise the fruit trees will blossom too early and the fruit will be lost to the November frosts.
