Bloody business

Spent the day on the campus of a large organization, volunteering for the blood drive it was running with the Red Cross.

Some blood facts, in the US:
- someone needs blood approx every two seconds;
- a single car accident victim can require as many as 100 units of blood;
- a million new people are diagnosed with cancer every year, many of whom will need transfusions;
- there a 97% chance someone you know will need blood;
- only 3% of the entire population donates blood;
- the most common blood type is O+ (38%) and it can be transfused to virtually anyone.
