Belt Impact

Shortly after moving into our rural home over 20 years ago, we found out that a sand and gravel quarry was to be established about 0.75km away - oops. It seems much work was done by locals beforehand to minimise the impact on the environment and a conveyor belt was installed to transfer the products 2km away for processing, rather than having trucks on the country lanes.

Naturally we were concerned about various aspects of this, mainly noise and visually, but we soon got used to it. Maybe a quarter has been extracted and land restored and at the moment we tend to look over the works rather than at them. They are going awfully slow though, maybe it is due to thefts of all the copper used to power it! Doh!

This view is looking across, over the site of an ex-lime quarry to fields that just soak up the sun, but at the top the belt chunders along then down, I say chunders, I forget when I last heard it. But there's enough I like in this view to not let the works spoil it :-)
