Pelican Series IV

This pelican is getting ready to dive,   It carries its
wings elevated to be more aerodynamic.  Note
the black under-wings and "big-paddle" feet.  But
maybe the elevated wings serve another purpose?
What do you think?

Lastly, don't you just love its face decor? They are always
on the move or bobbing so I snap many photos.
I now wish it is not cropped so, but it is.......
