Test Drive

Today was the day to test drive three TGA mobility scooters as part of our local community business initiative to establish a mountain bike hire facility. As part of the bid for Lottery funding, our business case included the purchase of 2 electric bikes for use off road by the disabled. The idea is that disabled residents and visitors to the area should have the same access to local trails and forest roads as able bodied bikers.

Believe it or not, these scooters were part of a Top Gear TV challenge in off road conditions. Today we took them up a 1:4 hill at the rear of the Network Centre, onto a rough trail through the woods and then along a forestry road. They were all simple to use, comfortable and travelled at up to 8 mph. They have a range of over 20 miles on one charge of the heavy duty batteries.

We just have to decide which ones we want to buy, although I think it could be the 4 wheel version as opposed to either of the 3 wheelers. Hopefully, when the hire facility opens next Easter these kind of scooters will be well used by disabled people to give them greater access to the countryside!
