Stuffed Olives!

An excursion .......organised by our U3A......to the inland industrial town of Alcoy proved to be MUCH more interesting than it might first appear!
We were wonderfully looked after by Fatima, at the Serpis factory.......which specialises in preparing, canning, bottling and selling Stuffed Olives, within Spain and to many countries across the world. The brand name, in Spain, is Serpis......the river that runs through Alcoy......
and the most popular product is the anchovy stuffed olive, that so many of us enjoy with a 'copa' of wine .....usually before dinner!
Millions of table olives, from Andalucia or Extremadura, are harvested for our 'aperitifs'.......these are not the same olives that are pressed and squeezed to make the gallons of Olive Oil for which Spain is famous.....nor, are they the olives that are used in soaps or creams....
So next time, we enjoy a pre-dinner drink with an olive or two, we'll be a lot more understanding about all the work that went into putting the little olive on to our table!!
