Siestas
Took this whilst waiting for our finishing team to arrive. We decided to take them out for a meal to say "THANK YOU" for their help. They have done far more than the original scope of work. Wanted to treat them to a biryani which is the celebration meal in the subcontinent. Also wanted to do it before Ramadan begins (probably tomorrow) as they will be fasting during daylight hours.
The workmen in my blip are painting the exterior of some of the buildings in our development. (They are owned by different owners, so not all buildings being decorated.) Only as recently as 7 years ago or so, a law came into force that all workers on construction sites have to be given 12-3pm off from June to August. This is because we now regularly experience temperatures between 45 and 50degC.
The companies do this (sometimes reluctantly) but what they don't do is give them a place to BE during those hours! As a result, you see workmen lying literally ANYWHERE they can find that has some shade. This includes pavements (using a brick for a pillow), steps; literally anywhere they can lie themselves down, even if people walk past them!
These guys have landed well, as they have grass to lie on under the shade of a tree. One of them has even got some cardboard! Geraldine thinks its one of the boxes we put out. She was telling me yesterday when she was in the flat doing some unpacking, the sprinklers suddenly came on and the guys got soaked! Poor things!
Had a really late night last night. Geraldine's friend arrived (at 2am) from Cyprus to 1. help her with a massive Stock Count she is doing for the shop, and 2. to be with her after her next chemo session as I am going to experience my first ever Olympics!!!
Done a bit more today but so much more needs doing. I connected the stereo (hurray) and we worked to music. There are still so many boxes to open but nowhere to put the things! Wrong time of the year to do a car boot sale even. Enough for the day. Will tackle more tomorrow. :)
