The odd couple
The first few times the collared dove tried to get on the table at the same time as the wood pigeon he biffed her on the head repeatedly, but she kept coming back and eventually he gave up. The doves look very big compared with the finches, but he is massive beside her - his shoulders are 3 or 4 times broader. He waddled to the base of the table before flying up to it.
I've put a head & shoulders shot in the extra, to show that he is a bonnie bird.
I have set myself a challenge to see the highest number of species on the table at once: managed four today: collared dove, sparrow, brambling and greenfinch.
There is something unusual in the garden: my neighbour has heard it, but no-one has seen it. We think it might be the ring ouzel: my eyes are peeled.
