Gently down the stream

Up tails all

Not much blipping time today, so a quick wander down to the stream.  Somehow that place never fails me.

Do you remember the 'Ducks' Ditty' from Wind in the Willows?

All along the backwater,
Through the rushes tall,
Ducks are a-dabbling,
Up tails all!

Ducks' tails, drakes' tails,
Yellow feet a-quiver,
Yellow bills all out of sight
Busy in the river!

Slushy green undergrowth
Where the roach swim—
Here we keep our larder,
Cool and full and dim.

Everyone for what he likes!
We like to be
Heads down, tails up,
Dabbling free!

High in the blue above
Swifts whirl and call—
We are down a-dabbling
Up tails all!

It was the first thing I thought of when I saw Mrs Mallard very determinedly rooting underwater at the edge of the stream and it made me laugh. So of course it's my blip for today.

Have a brill evening  xx
