A sunny day so I decided to go across to Hoy and do the weekly guided tour of the naval museum at Lyness. A really interesting day out, and hard to choose one photo to blip.
This is the Otter Bank, a boat that was used for many years by the Royal Bank of Scotland to offer banking services to folk in the isles, in the days before switch cards and internet banking.
The boats behind are examples of ones used to catch herring and haddock...not much more than rowing boats really, and I presume they would have had to go quite far out to catch haddock.
Extra is detail of a duck's feathers. There's a very pretty pond area behind the museum, with some very relaxed ducks.
