The Three Crosses!
This was taken in the grounds of The Church of St Mary the Virgin with St John in Great Brington. The church dates to about 1200, and probably stands on the site of an earlier timber church which was destroyed by fire.
Nearby is Althorp House, the home of Earl Spencer, brother of Princess Diana.
Three wooden crosses
Stood by the road
And as you might guess
There’s a story to be told
A story about a farmer
And about a teacher
A story about hooker
And about a preacher
Bound to the South
On an overnight bus
And any one of them
Could be one of us
They never made it there
It never was to be
But still, they have a story
One that’s very close to me
Bound to the South
They were stopped by truck
For in every life there’s a time
When you just run out of luck
A time when all that matters
Is what you’ve left behind
Whether you’ve touched those who knew you
And were good, and were kind
Leave a love for the land
Or the wisdom of your mind
Or leave a drop of hope
Leave truth- leave a sign
My mother was on the bus
Which as I’m quite sure you can see
Is why this sad tale
Is so very close to me
The preacher took his bible
And he laid it in her hand
He told her of salvation
And of the promised land
Three wooden crosses
But my mother found her way
She lived to tell the story
And that’s why I’m here today
