Trumpeter swan
Once considered in danger of extinction, the trumpeter swan has made a comeback. In 1933, fewer than 70 were know to exist in the wild, but by 2010, their population had increased to over 46,000 birds. Still, I never expected to have the joy of seeing one in the wild, but this morning at church two friends told me there was one in the area. Bob and I went looking this afternoon, and we found it. I took a lot of pictures as it floated around the marsh, so I will post more trumpeter images on my blog tomorrow. I was thrilled with the opportunity to add this beautiful bird to my bird list.
