Navigation - Day 2
The car was well and truly frosted this morning and it was foggy. I don't usually spray the windscreen with chemicals, but the ice was unscrapeable... if that's even a word. The extra was taken on the journey towards the Chatsworth valley.
We spent the day on Kinder Scout in the sunshine, approaching it from the north, which is the opposite direction to usual for me. We learned how to take a bearing from the ground and transfer it to the map, and consolidated all that we'd learned yesterday. Of course, being Kinder, there was plenty of boggy ground to contend with, so I've washed the peat off my boots so they don't rot.
It's been two long, 9-5 days, with over an hours drive each side of that, but I'm so pleased to have done it - and passed. Now to practise. I really love the drive over to that area of the Peak District, across the long straight lanes over Beeley Moor and down to Chatsworth... not that I speed or anything ;-) Over the two days we've seen lots of grouse, three hares and a lizard, but unfortunately my camera wasn't handy for the hares.
The course was run by Peak Mountaineering and Paul Lewis was a great teacher!
