Triumph Historic Counties Run 2016 - Part 2
As the day started, we (Reg, Martin and I (Annie)) were completing the first half of the Club Triumph Historic Counties Run. We'd started in Essex, and had already been to Kent, West Sussex, East Sussex and Surrey when midnight hit. Before we could rest, we visited Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire. We'd picked up bonus points for visiting breweries and specific pub names as well. All ran smoothly in our point scoring - and with the car, largely. We'd got used to bump starting it quickly.
After a rest stop at 1:30am, we were given the other half of the locations to visit. Up to 9am, we then went to Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Norfolk, Lincolnshire, Rutland, Leicestershire, Warwickshire and Bedfordshire - scoring more brewery and pub points along the way. By 9am we were back at the finish at Enfield, and enjoying a hearty cooked breakfast.
Points added up, and it was announced that we came third. We won the event last year, and this year there was a penalty point introduced for cars of over 2 people (too much time to do research). Without that, we'd have come second - and we were fine with that. It's all about the fun of taking part.
A stewards' enquiry afterwards has since promoted a team to third - so we're out of the medal zone. You can't win them all! We would say try harder next year, but we're organising it next year...
In the blip from left to right are: Patrick, Martin, Reg, Jerry and the wonderful car behind. Patrick and Jerry are from another team we do these events with. They were similarly challenged with their car as we've been with ours - so they did the event in the comfort of a modern car!
