Leighton Moss
What a wonderful day we've had!
We spent the day at RSPB Leighton Moss, where we have had a really successful day, weather-wise and wildlife-wise too.
It's not as close as our usual haunts, so quite an early start was needed, and we arrived in good time. Not having been here before we got the low-down on what was around and I was excited to hear that Green Woodpeckers were around, as I have been wanting to see one for a while.
There are a number of hides, a feeding station for woodland birds, and lots of open reed bed to explore.
As well as the usual tits and finches, we saw redpoll(my first), a cute little wren, mummy mallard and her 13 ducklings, chiffchaff or willow warbler(I can't decide, but it didn't sound like a chiffchaff!),Marsh Harriers displaying well over the reeds(my first), a cleverly hidden Tawny Owl having a sleep, Herons, White Egrets, Lapwings, Snipe, various ducks and waders, rabbits, a herd of red deer crossing the reed bed, and some gorgeous pheasants. I chose one of these for today's blip as the colours were so stunning in the sunshine.
Altogether a fabulous day (apart from the traffic coming home which was pants!)
