Friday allotment day!

Awake and up at 6.30 so time to have an espresso before going up to let the girls out. Estelle came out but she wasn't eating and when I picked her up realside she was all distended at the back, so looks like she has a tumor - I am amazed at how many go this way. I discovered Chickens can get all sorts of tumours, some of which are caused by Marek’s disease (herpes virus) and others by mainly viral causes, particularly retroviruses. That damn herpes virus again. So just have to keep a careful eye on her and decide when the time has come to have her put down. Stress and poor hygiene can contribute to the tendency for them to get tumours, neither of which our chickens have. But they are old girls for the most part so guess something has to get them in the end.
Rest of my time spent cleaning, pulling up the old fence which had got covered in swathes of grass, tending the incinerator and picking dandelion flowers off the plants as no time to dig them up - next week! Rest of the day spent peacefully at home and I started my knitting! All going well till the 11th row when I lost count and had to unpick - not easy when doing cable stitch with dark wool! My sisters circular needles with the jazzy tips and purple cable makes the knitting easy though, with needles I kept hitting the sides of my chair, plus had to cut my little fingernail as it was digging into the palm of my hand! Who knew knitting could be so fraught!
Finally I was able to leave it and go close both the allotment girls and my friends brood. I decided to bring the run back from my newbies old coop and use it with my newbies to give them extra space when confined. Uber fun getting it in the back of my car and had to drive home carefully with the boot wide open! Just as much fun getting it into and through the house! I can't wait till tomorrow to see if it fits and how the newbies like it!
