After a sound sleep last night, I ventured up to the Post Office to sort out the passport issue. No you cannot pay by cheque, no you cannot have a renewal it has to be an extension, does this photograph look considerably different to the one taken 5 years ago, so needs to be countersigned?
Lady you jest!!!! With the attention span of a gnat and tolerance time measured in nanoseconds, I adopted my "Queen Victoria" look...... I was not amused!!! Eventually I handed over £99.25, the forms and pictures to be sent off!!
On the way home I blipped this blue plaque to Gustav Holst, who lived in the village from 1914 to 1925 and in this house from 1917. He completed the celebrated works the Planet Suite. The theme from Jupiter was dedicated to Thaxted, and was set to the well-known words of Cecille Spring-Rice, 'I vow to thee my country'.
