Crossing over into Holy Land

There are few places in the surrounding countryside, where we both feel at home in a sacred way. Here we sense the presence of a holy silence. The omnipresence of serenity. Let me tell about the mediaeval cloystervillage of Lippoldsberg. Now again we could reach it by the small ferryboat. Crossing the Weser, gliding over it, you reach an other shore. A very spacious mediaeval rural village. Crossed by the quick floating Mühlbach. A crisscross of very old Fachwerk houses, farms, vegetable and flower gardens. Many trees and most of all this breath giving silence all over the place. I mean in the centre mostly void of cars.

There has been a Benedictiner Cloyster here from the 12th century. Of which only the great church and the cloystergarden still exists. The ancient cloyster buildings have been transformed into a farming estate. Later on the granges became gardening houses. But if you listen deeply into the silence youmight hear nuns singing in the gardens. There is a bookstore in the corner of the shadowy convent garden. You can heal your soul by entering the old church and stay there. Just sit in silence and look into the play of lightbeams on the walls and pilars.

We had plenty of time to visit a garden centre and after that to climb up to the forest boundary, looking high over the vast landscape of this marvellous Weser valley. With a big slow turn across the wide open fields we descended back into the village. Our souls and spirits purified, opened and filled with fresh air. Feeling thankfull we crossed back over the river. Wishing the ferryman a good evening meal.
