Clean water - a human right?
7th April 2016:
The area here is Mauve Zimba while the village is called Chanukha and is again over 200km from home. The Group Village headman here is Mr Robert Zimba, who was truly delighted to have the first clean water for his people, 320 of them.
The big challenge here and why they have no pump or well to date is the challenging depth of the well at 17.68 metres deep. Most pumps I have seen can only cope with one third this depth.

Hi Boss,
MZIMBA TRIP
REORTT FROM ALFRED BANDA (GENERAL COMMENTS)
- We had a nice journey to Mzimba and all work intended to do, we did it very well.
i. We have installed all 5 pumps
ii. We have delivered all 20 bags of cement to 13 wells we supposed to install in the next days to come
iii. We have taught 5 new villages how to make slabs, dig wells, use of cement while building and plastering.
iv. We managed to make 7 slabs out of 13, while others we will them make them for their villages themselves.
- The villagers fed us very well and gave us good accommodation, they also helped us while working.
- We now know the place to collect/buy cement in Mzimba so next time no problem in getting it.
- Next time two days are not enough for the work because the wells are very deep and many 0f the 13 pumps are not less than 10 m.
- Next trip more pipes, more cement, more pumps, more spiders are needed for work: possibly in two weeks time.
