Boulder Beach

One of the reasons I'd wanted to go to Cape Town for a long time is because there is a colony of penguins not far from the city. Although the climate of Cape Town is warm, like the Mediterranean, a cold ocean current brings fish-filled water from the Antarctic, enabling African penguins to breed in good numbers. This colony at Boulder Beach seems to be doing well - there are hundreds of pairs there year-round.

Hundreds of visitors too - but then it was the afternoon on Easter Sunday - all of whom seemed to be really enjoying these adorable birds waddling about and making their donkey-like braying calls.
