Pacific Black Duck

I visited a niece in hospital today after which I really needed some solitude (no, she will be fine) so I wandered around our Lake Victoria, which mainly consists of wetlands abounding with native bird life.  This particular duck is quite common to most of our wetlands, lakes and mudflats.  We had them on our channel at the farm and I loved watching them from my kitchen window. I particularly like their distinctive head markings and the iridescent green patch on their  wings. This can be seen in my extra which shows a cormorant and a black duck sharing the ablution block.
