Tacoma Narrows Bridge(s)

I was lucky to capture this unobstructed view of the twin bridges between the trees zipping past the window of the Amtrak train conveying us to Portland today.

The original single bridge collapsed in a storm, four months after it was built in 1940 and wasn't replaced until ten years later. Google "Tacoma Narrows bridge collapse" to see the spectacular movie of the bridge collapsing. I'm not able to post the link from my mobile devices -- perhaps someone will be kind enough to post it in a comment.

The second, parallel, bridge was completed in 2009.
