Look Up
Another fine ski day, although the snow is melting fast and trails are being closed right and left. We skiied out to the warming hut, but it wasn't there. Obsessively checking the trail map did not make it appear. Turns out they towed it in last night, an end-of-season chore, but apparently were keeping that a secret. And the beavers--their industry flooded parts of the meadow and the trail crossing the river was under water. Spring in the mountains. Swarms of noisy birds pecking at the snow. What could they possibly find? Yesterday we watched a coyote cross the open white meadow.
I tried snowshoeing after lunch, and it wasn't as sloggy as I had feared. Not as exhilarating as skiing, but an acceptable way to see the view, and certainly good exercise. I'm exhausted, let's be clear on that, but in a good way. Tired and happy and full of sun and snow and bright blue Sierra sky.
