Остров
Island
Day 3 of our trip to Russia. Pictured is the Smolenka (Смоленка), one of Saint Petersburg's minor rivers and a branch of the Malaya Neva River (Малая Нева). The river separates the Vasilyevsky Island (Васильевский остров) in the south (where you see the three apartment blocks) from the Dekabristov (Decembrists') Island (Остров Декабристов) in the north.
Every city has its nice and its not so nice corners, and I think it's important to see the latter, too. Also, I actually like this kind of architecture - something along the line of 'Soviet Brutalism'.
There is a Russian saying, that you don't need to take a picture in black&white to make Saint Petersburg look grey. Well...
"I'm told by my guests my apartment is a bit stark. I thought maybe some art would warm it up." "I'm going to go out on a limp and assume these 'guests' were women?" "Well, I'm not trying to impress the pizza guy..." - (Daredevil, S1xE9)
