Through the Bus Window
No matter that the weather forecast was grim and the rain undecided as we looked out of the window early this morning, His Lordship and I had decided that whatever the elements had in store, Peebles was today's destination. It was a bit unfortunate that we left the drier sunny weather at home for cloud and drizzle as we journeyed further afield, but it all paled into insignificance as we sat in Coltmans restaurant to have the acme of scone perfection- cranberry and walnut, warm and risen as high as houses.
Then it was off to walk by the river and explore the pends off the High Street. Despite the advertised temperature of 8 degrees, the wind was as fiercely cold as any this winter, and the pedestrians were wrapped up like Inuits.
I hadn't been down this way since the terrible floods in January, but the evidence was still there with fields struggling to drain and the river banks of the swollen Tweed soggy and muddy, with the paths a patchwork of puddles.
We both miss our car, but there is something relaxing about letting the bus take the strain, especially if one is receipt of a bus pass.
My blip was a lucky accident in focus as we sped past my favourite tree on the Road from Penicuik to Leadburn.
My extra image is of the War Memorial to the men from Peebleshire lost in the wars. It has quite an Eastern influence with the mosaics in beautiful colours embellished with gold.
