St Mark's fly

I had a nice day today mooching around photographing insects, wild flowers and local churches.
This little beauty who posed so well for me on a discarded feather is a St Mark's Fly (Bibio sp), so called because they emerge around St Mark's day (25th April) every year.
Often known as hawthorn flies, they are true flies, from the family Bibionidae with 20 species found in the UK.
The males have long dangly legs and large eyes (this is a male) and the females are larger with tiny eyes and much shorter legs.
