Fathers of science and botany.

Backblip.
Galileo Galilie and Pier Antonio Micheli. Two important figures of Firenze depicted here in a courtyard of one of the many incredibly grand palazzos in Firenze.
The former was an Italian physicist, mathematician, astronomer, and philosopher who played a major role in the Scientific Revolution.
The latter, Micheli, was a noted Italian botanist, professor of botany in Pisa, curator of the Orto Botanico di Firenze, author of Nova plantarum genera iuxta Tournefortii methodum disposita. He discovered the spores of mushrooms, was a leading authority on cryptogams, and coined several important genera of microfungi including Aspergillus and Botrytis. Funnily enough I associate Botrytis with wine making!!! It is alternately known as "noble rot" and is the source of many fine sweet wines, notably Tokaj. See here
