Strawberries and Cream
I am so looking forward to the day we finally get some warm sunshine - it feels like we have been waiting for some time.
Despite this I am determined to get my 10000 steps in every day so after my reasonably busy day at work (with lack of movement in the office and only one trip out to get one cup of tea) I was adamant I would get on the treadmill to make up the slack.
I decided the best use of time on the treadmill would be to watch some TED talks.
I watched this awesome one by Celeste Headlee on ten ways to have a better conversation.
It seems like really basic stuff but there was a LOT in there that made sense. And I think I am going to try to apply it. One was being present - be IN the conversation or don't. Celeste mentioned that we speak about the difference in speaking speeds and listening speeds - 225 words per minute for speaking but we listen at 500 words per minute.
I recognise I am guilty of trying to fill in that difference - I am thinking about what the person may be trying to say so I cut in and am presumptuous. Being conscious of this variance may help me be mindful and spend the energy actively listening rather than guessing what they are saying.
Anyways, have a watch if you are interested - I thought it was really powerful and incredibly well delivered.
