Corfe Castle
Storm Katie ripped cross the country this morning, so we waited until after lunch to set off on our journey to Dorset. Despite being a Bank Holiday, the roads were comparatively quiet and we had a very easy journey via Newbury and Oxford, with only one small fallen tree to avoid near Wareham.
We couldn't go to our rented house until 5pm so filled in a bit of time walking round the perimeter of Corfe Castle, which gave us wonderful views of both the village and the heathlands fringing Poole Harbour, particularly as the skies were still brooding, with scattered showers of heavy rain visible.
The house was amazing - a rather rambling property on a sloping site, rather quirkily decorated and with the largest and most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. We left Alex and Ben there, and the rest of us went for a rather damp evening walk to Stoborough Heath NNR, where we saw a large herd of Sika deer grazing, and a smaller group of donkeys who were happily browsing on the prickliest of gorse. We couldn't help think of Eeyore, in his rather boggy and gloomy place.
