Donating Dolly
I managed to go and give blood today, hooray! Dolly and I managed to donate our pint without any problems! Lewis, on the other hand, fainted! I know, embarrassing right! Don't worry, he is okay, they had tried to reposition the needle and that made him go a bit funny, so they halted the donation and made him lie flat for a while!
When I was reading the additional letter they sent, it said that only 6% of the Scottish population donate blood regularly, even taking into account those who can't donate, this seems like a shockingly small number! I imagine most people wouldn't hesitate to accept a transfusion if it were required, so why wouldn't they want to donate? This sign shows the approximate levels if each blood type in Scotland at the moment, as you can see the O types are low, but with O+ being the most common blood group and O- being the universal donor, it's not surprising that these would be the first to run low! A- is a relatively uncommon blood type, so again it's running low, which is why I made an extra effort to donate!
