14 miles to the Yarrow Valley, and goodness knows how many beyond to the fattening fields in Norfolk before the last journey to Smithfields.

A bag of oats, a bottle of whisky, a sharp knife to bleed the occasional beast to make black pudding.    And a shilling a day....return at your own expense.     A hard life the drover had.
