The quaking aspen trees are starting to bud! These fuzzy little balls are called catkins, and are produced before the trees leaf out. All aspen trees have catkins, but not all catkins have pollen - only the male trees. The pollen spreads from the male trees to the females by way of the wind, so leaves get in the way.
