The Major Oak

We got out earlyish and took a walk from the Sherwood Forest visitor centre around the old Sherwood Forest. There are lots of wonderful old trees there including the Major Oak which was voted Tree of the Year in 2014. It's t least 800 years old and it's girth suggest it's probably 1150 years old. Apparently Robin Hood used to meet up with his merry men there (if he really existed).

Whatever the truth is, it's a good place to walk with lots of interesting areas and away from the visitor centre it didn't seem to be very crowded.
