Mono Monday: Fool
or not a fool... that's the question...
Uden is traditionally known as the cherry village, In the 19th century there was a large part of the harvest going to "cherry visits" from family and friends. The rest of the cherries were mostly sold to retailers who specially came to the village. The Udense cherry culture was given a new dimension by organizing the Udense Cherry Festivals. The first edition of these took place on July 7, 1946, though this was still not officially a Cherry Festival. This tall scarecrow "Peerke Verschiet" (Scary Peet) was the symbol of the Udense Cherry Festivals... In 1960 was the last Cherry Festival... So Scary Peet is now history!
