Sunday's spring snowstorm

We woke to quite snowy conditions for the first part of the morning. The sun has since come out and melted most of it on the hard surfaces, but the cold temps remain. It's actually begun hailing now!

We have had a lazy day after a wonderful birthday outing to the Gardner Museum yesterday. It was really crowded, a rainy Saturday with some conventions in town and the Ice Championships perhaps swelling the numbers. I have never in my many times visiting there seen so many people, but we managed and Kalle loved it. The April nasturtium flowers were hanging from pots placed in windows above the courtyard, something I so look forward to seeing each spring.

They are repairing the roof that has been causing second floor leaks and have removed the artwork from that floor. They have the pieces displayed in the exhibition gallery of the new section of the museum. It was amazing to see the familiar pieces properly lit. The Gardner Museum rooms are quite dark with pieces displayed eclectically by Mrs. Gardner herself. She left the museum to Boston upon her death in the early 20s, but her will is very restrictive and nothing can be moved or removed without notations of the need for conservation work, or an approved loan to another museum. A card is always left at the spot describing an object that has been removed for work or loaned. The leaky roof situation was impacting the priceless art, so steps had to be taken and legal proceedings to be able to move the art work to a new location while the repairs were going on. In the exhibit, "Off the Wall",  I saw my favorite Zorn painting of Mrs. Gardner displayed, and I shall never forget the true brilliance of the piece in proper light. Rembrandt's self portrait took my breath away. It was a wonderful birthday visit, with T, Kalle, & G

For the Record,
This day came in with wild snow, then sun, now hail and sun again.

All hands happy
