Vienna

I found out last year that Easyjet were starting flights from Edinburgh to Vienna starting in March 2016 so I immediately booked up as have fancied visiting Vienna for a long time but out off by the lack of direct flights from Scotland.

Another holiday, another 3.30 wake up and down deserted motorway to Edinburgh Airport. Since it was also the start of the school Spring holidays the Airport was mobbed! All these people there at 5.30 in the morning!! By the time we got through security, meeting Dave, a friend from work there, there was only time to buy a quick mascara in the Mac shop as it was the least busy, coffee and croissant in Cafe Nero then it was off to Gate 2 to board. As we only checked in on Thursday night we were one row from the back in aisle seats, which was fine as I had downloaded a couple of to programmes I had wanted to see (not science or history documentaries)! Two hours and 20 mins later we were landing in Vienna in lovely sunshine. Fab after leaving the grey and drizzle of Edniburgh.

There were two types of train leaving from the airport but we took the cheapest one and 15 minutes later we got off then took the U Bahn to near our Apartment hotel in Singerstrasse. It was only 11am but our apartment was ready and on the 6th floor massive with good views over the rooftops. So different from the 20sq ft of London hotels. I think we could fit three into this room and it's so bright with Windows the full length and side of the rooms. You pull back a door and there is the kitchen with sink and microwave - lovely.

First of all we went for lunch of a sandwich and coffee sitting outdoors of Haas and Haas which is a tea room with outdoor courtyard. It also has a lovely shop selling chocolates and cake and tea.

Then we started walking to the Naasmarkt, everything food related with the most amazing smells and so colourful. On a Saturday the Flea Market is added to the end and it was fab for taking pictures. It's crazy seeing what people sell and people buy!

Next we got the S Bahn to the Schoenbrunn Palace, seemingly the Summer residence of the Hapsburgs, seemingly they were big fighters, although I am totally ignorant of all these historical facts. They met their demise when they teamed up with the Kaiser in WW1 - oh well facts that I will probably forget by tomorrow.... Nice palace, beautiful grounds and fab views over the city. Didn't go it as it was extortionate. The weather was too good to go walking indoors.

Headed back to the Singerstrasse to get ready to go out but with all the sun and the walking and the early start was goosed! So we went as far as the Jonathan and Sleglinde Cafe round the corner which specialises in tattie dishes. So tasty. So close we could still pick up the hotel wifi. Was sleeping by 1030 in the comfiest of beds.
