We Were There

Me and son Andy took the 07:30 train from Bristol Parkway to London Paddington to watch our team West Ham United play against Crystal Palace. It was probably our last visit to the Boleyn Ground as they're moving to Queen Elizabeth Park, built for the Olympics, for the start of next season.

We got a day ticket on the underground, took in a few sights along the way - I've added three different perspectives on a famous landmark as extras - had lunch with a couple of beverages, then watched a 2-2 draw marred by some poor refereeing decisions (in our option and that of 30,000+ other West Ham fans at the ground!). With West Ham 2-1 up Kouyate was shown a straight red card for a 50/50 challenge and this changed the game. On the positive side, Payet scored another stunning free kick from 25 yards; he is a special talent.

After the match we paid a visit to the new stadium which is very impressive and will have a capacity of 60,000 compared with the current 35,000 at the Boleyn, where they've been playing since 1904.

We had dinner at the Westfield Centre before heading back to Paddington and arriving home just before midnight. A great and memorable day out.
