Bread and jam for me
Sourdough bread, raspberry jam: both home made yesterday, sampled today.
If there were a gastronomic version of Desert Island Discs - Desert Island Dishes perhaps - bread and jam would be my number one repast, the one I'd keep out of all the rest.
I don't begrudge the slow rise of the yeast culture or the long pick of the fruit among the brambles, that's all part of the pleasure of anticipation, the satisfaction of creation.
(Note for purists: because I potted the jam when it was still hot the fruit rose and left a translucent band of jelly at the bottom, an effect that works for the photograph but is technically a fault.)
