Pulling the wool.....
Recently, I've been watching a great daily programme on BBC2, called 'This Farming Life.'
It followed a year in the lives of four different farming families, and one of the most interesting facts I learned, was that some ewes can get depressed at lambing time. If they don't have babies of their own to look after, they get irritable, biting the sheep dogs and throwing turnips round their pens.
So the farmers quite often give them a placebo....a fake baby to calm them and stop them rampaging.
Here's a very cool ewe, who's been soothed by the cuddly toy lamb that's been given to her. To us, it's obviously been made from a fluffy sheepskin rug and a pair of black socks, but 'mama' doesn't seem to know the difference.....
Isn't it convincing!
