Mothers and Sons

What a lovely last day of March, finally!
Lovely blue skies....and warmer too.

We went off to meet youngest son before all going out for lunch. He is still off work with his eyes, but fingers crossed he is going to call into the office this weekend to check out if his eyes have settled down enough for him to do his job, so fingers crossed x

We did a little reccie of where we need to go for our DiLs granddads' funeral next week :-(

We went to a lovely pub for lunch. I had fish and chips as we don't have a meal on Thursday evening as we are quizzing! On the way back to youngests we took a route that we hadn't taken before and whilst sat at some traffic lights I spotted this War Memorial glistening green in the sunshine..........as a true blipper, I said "oh that would make a lovely blip!" Youngest said his Father In Law had once painted it (as in maintained it, not artistically ;-) when he was an apprentice painter and decorator some 40+years ago!!! He said turn right and first left there's a car park.....you can easily park up and nip out to take a picture of it"......so I did :-)

Initially I couldn't find anything on the internet about the statue but after a bit of perseverance I found out that it is a WWI memorial, unusual in that it doesn't list the names of those fallen. You can read more about it if you click on the link below. What really caught my eye was the statue showing not only the Soldier, but also the Mother.

After we got home we spent an hour in the garden.........we've had to put the pond covers on!!! One half of the pond is covered in frogspawn and the deeper half appears to have been visited by the local ducks, as happens every year at breeding time. For some reason, despite having rather a large pond/small lake on our estate, they get into our pond, eat all the roots of the plants, churn up all the silt and generally make a blooming mess........so hub made a couple of frames covered is fine mess which we just stand on bricks to cover the pond until the Ducks ardour has dampened down :-/

We will be a team of 3 tonight as Dave is away golfing......maybe we will win :-)
