Northern Lights
Just back from a week of skiing in Lapland, so I'm catching up with my blips. I went out late on the first night to try to capture the aurora borealis - I've seen it before but never photographed it. I took loads of pictures and learned a lot about how not to do it. This picture and one of the extras are among those that worked. The other extra is a night-time shot of the forest, but I realised afterwards that the aurora was just getting going and you can just see it coming up in this one too. If it looks like daylight, it's because it was a cloudless sky and nearly a full moon - the shadows are from the moon The aurora is one of the loveliest sights I've ever seen.
