Today’s........

..........Surprise


Yesterday I found a Katydid in the garden and today I found not one, but two Praying Mantis – one was shy and flew off, but this one was quite happy posing for the camera.


The Praying Mantis

New Zealand has two species of praying mantis
- The Native Praying Mantis
- And
- The introduced species from South Africa

The two species look different
- The native NZ adult have a large purple spot on the inside of each front leg and is bright green
- The South African have a distinctive hammerhead appearance. They can range in colour from green to brown.
