I thought of calling it 'calendar finish'. Like photo-finish, only for things that move v e r y s l o w l y. And positively beg for typographic cliches like that one. But, I thought, hey, if you have to explain a joke, it may not be that good a joke. So I decided not to bother.
Anyway, the headline's kind of misleading. The other slugs were going in different directions.
So you could say each slug was winning its own race!
