A grim day weather-wise so I have resorted to the Good Housekeeping Children's Cookery Book for my bip, published in 1958.  Before uploading I checked the section for this recipe: I thought it was from 'Mother spends a day in bed', but it is actually from 'Gay salads'.  I'm not sure I fancy dates and sardines together ;) 

In the evening it was the last Craft Club of the season, so we spent most of the evening eating...about 20 people there but enough food for 50.
